Introduction

is based on to the results of Marta Orts i Alís' doctoral thesis "Catalan traditional songs as a teaching resource in the music department and the possibilities for a cross-curricular education approach: storing a repertoire in electronic form, analysis and classification" (UNED, 2005), supervised by Dr. Pilar Lago Castro, unanimously graded cum laude and awarded an extraordinary doctoral prize.
The SONGBOOK section of the website, therefore, started out with 93 of the 2,239 Catalan traditional songs included in the above thesis, together with the relevant analysis, cross-subject ideas, query design, audio files, words and music.
When it was posted on the net in 2005, a work group was set up to add regularly to the records in the database which was the subject and the result of the research work done for the above-mentioned thesis.
